I still haven't processed my pictures but maisonwares has hers up. She's a great photog. I hope to get mine up tonight. I would have last night but Mark and I went to see The Happening (not too happenin', btw) and then the Celtics showed up and proceeded to TROUNCE the Lakers so I was glued to the couch. This is a picture from day two. Please note lack of tablecloths - soaked by Saturday's rain and hung to dry during all of Sunday. I really did have a good time even with the weather and all that nonsense. |

Ok, let's talk about music. Let's talk about Otis Redding.

I caught the last half of a documentary on Otis last night on PBS while I was cutting fabric for pillows. Aside from hearing him here and there through out my life and loving his voice (it's unmistakable), I wasn't a REAL fan until I got to wade through his whole catalog when I was working here on and off for 5years. In all my listening and chatting with customers about his music I never knew he died at 26. I knew he was young and it was unexpected but twenty six? Really? God he was incredible at 26, imagine if that plane hadn't crashed. We're lucky he had a chance to give us such fantastic songs in his short time.
Anyway, these are a couple of my favorites.
I DARE you to watch that standing up and NOT shake your butt a little - or a lot, in my case. It was twelve hundred degrees in my house last night but I was following his every command.
Wonderful. People in the documentary - those musicians behind him in that clip, the founder of Stax records, his wife and daughter - they all said that not only was Otis and incredible artist but the nicest guy you could ever meet too. Isn't that always the way?

If you can catch the documentary, it's worth a watch (though it IS pledge drive season so there are a lot of interruptions and I don't think they show the entire film).
Thanks Mr. Redding. xo |

| A promise to myself |
[Jun. 5th, 2008|10:17 am] |
Dear Tidy Sarah,
I promise - no SWEAR - to tackle, and hopefully solve my little 'problem' very soon.
I SWEAR that by August there will be no more boxes of unsorted things and books and letters and odds and ends and STUFF out on the porch, tucked in closets, sitting in corners.
I SWEAR that by August I will have everything that we have room for put away and anything that we do not have room for given away.
I SWEAR that by August I will have a coherent storage system for things like 'the archive' and old artwork. And that things that need homes will be clearly labeled and ready for the yard sale or packed up and ready to be brought to Goodwill.
I SWEAR that by August we will be able to use ALL of the house (ie that 1/2 of the porch which is now just some kind of insane cold storage for boxes that have been moved numerous times and barely opened) and will not have to be woken in the night to Hanni munching on the corners of long-ago-taped-closed-and-labeled-"to sort later" boxes.
I know I'll never be perfect and that we will always be a Keeper, a Collector, a Protector - of sad, lost, abandoned things and other stuff that has some memories stuck to it, but I can try to mend my ways and at least become reformed to a degree. I need to set limits for myself and get things under control. This problem runs in the family - we're all Keepers - but maybe it's time to change a little.
I know we're really busy with all this other stuff and don't have time to think about this now, but I had to get it out of our head. Come mid-June I'll really get my ass in gear to try to remedy this. It's been too long.
I hope that when I follow through with this promise, you can forgive me for all the years I've made us drag around all this stuff that I don't even remember that I have. And I'll forgive you for secretly hating all this stuff but still enabling me to keep it.
Good luck to us both.
Love, Hoarder Sarah
p.s. None of this applies to books. Those I'm keeping.

O, hai music. I just bought Mark and I tickets to see Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds in NYC in October. Selling art sometimes buys you a big fat rock and roll NYC weekend.

Remind me to get opera glasses before the autumn. I think we're in the way-back. :)

ZOMG HUGE.

Me: Omg look how fat Hanni is! [holding him vertically, the position in which he spans my entire torso and some of my legs]
Mark: He's obviously a cougar.
Me: [ha]
Mark: Soon you're going to take him to the vet and they're going to be all "Ma'am, that's a very nice cougar but you can't have a cougar."
I can to have a cougar. He weighed in yesterday at a whopping 17lb, 1.2oz. I started to worry that I'm overfeeding him but I think he's growing in ALL directions - not just the belly directions... gosh, i HOPE he is.

ComicCon talk later on. |

[Apr. 17th, 2008|04:13 pm] |
Tonight is one year since the night we took Scruff into the hospital for his first cancer-related episode. And tomorrow will be one year since that horrible, exhausting day. Horrible and exhausting but also ok since the events of that day gave us 9 more wonderful months with him...

I don't want to talk about it (what's to say that hasn't been said, right?) but I just feel like I have to acknowledge it. There are still these huge, too-bright, saturated feelings that pop up now and then (with tears and a closed throat) when I think about him and his illness.
Hug your animal babies a lot tonight. I know I will.

I need your help...
In the SHIRT department: I ordered a dozen sz Large ladies' AA tees in Asphalt. I want to order more shirts but dont really know what sizes are best - I know American Apparel runs really small and I never buy clothes for anyone but myself so I never know what will sell...
Can you tell me your preference in cut (men's cut has longer sleeves and i think are longer in general) and size? Men's Size Chart Ladies' Size Chart
In the EVERYTHING ELSE department: What should I be making for the spring/summer sales?
Poll #1171505
Open to: All, results viewable to: AllI like the Men's cut in size: I like the Ladies' cut in size: MAKE THESE THINGS
I made a big flickr set of all the Egg-A-Go-Go stuff from 2005 - now. If you wanna be AMAZINGLY helpful, take a look at the thumbnails and let me know what makes you say "OMG MAKE MORE OF ___________ I WANT A DOZEN! WRAP IT UP!"

| Don't go breakin my heart, Renegade |
[Apr. 13th, 2008|01:38 pm] |
Jen and I still haven't heard from Renegade. It's gotta be some kind of email addy typo or technical difficulty, right? The internet has NO info for us (for once).
I emailed them yesterday but no response yet - does anyone know one of the organizers?
I guess we'll find out tomorrow if they refund our table fee. But that's a crap way to find out. :(
I made some giant lists last night. So much to do!
Today is a day for sleeping in, seeing Mark off to work, eggs and toast, TEA and moving kinda slow. Time to get back to work. These things ain't gonna paint themselves.
Happy Sunday.
OH! Tonight at 9pm on National Geographic Channel (they honestly call themselves "Nat Geo" - so hip) is The Human Footprint which looks incredible and might cause some tear-jerkery.

| Today is pretty much Friday. |
[Apr. 10th, 2008|12:38 pm] |
Half-day Fridays are really the way to go. You should get some. A+++.
suncloudedover and I went to Walgreen's last night after having our self-worth renewed by watching WifeSwap and SuperNanny - Man, we're better than EVERYONE! Mark busted his knee playing a really violent, sweaty game of rugby doing nothing so I had to go fetch him some icepacks, advil and a hotwaterbottle (which I've been wanting FOREVER now anyway). We took our time and Megan took some pictures (go see her post. ha! we're awesome).

After spending nearly forty dollars(?! SAY WHUT, why is Advil do expensive!?) we left the store and Megan said "Do you feel like jumping?" and I was all "Well, have I ever NOT felt like jumping!?" So I did, and she took some pretty good pictures of some pretty sweet jumps.
And that got me thinking... My first official Jumping Picture was taken on July 6th, 2006... and I think that means it's HIGH TIME for a...
So there you have it. If anyone ever tells you I don't love life, you tell them they are a dirty filthy liar. Happy Almost Weekend. xo |
